Original Type I photograph of Jackie Robinson as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson is pictured here caught in a rundown between first and second in a game against the New York Giants at Ebbets Field. Second baseman Bobby Rhawn has the ball and is running towards Robinson as first baseman Johnny Mize awaits the throw. The original paper news caption, which is undated, remains affixed to the reverse. Despite the lack of a date, research indicates that this play took place on April 21, 1949, which was the Dodgers' third game of the season. Robinson had reached first on an error and was picked off by pitcher Clint Hartung, with Rhawn eventually making the tag on Robinson. As noted in the caption, the Dodgers lost the game 4-1. 1949 turned out to be a very good year for Robinson, as he batted both a league and career-high .342 with 16 home runs and 124 RBI to help lead the Dodgers to their second pennant in three seasons. Those numbers also earned Robinson the MVP Award at season's end. Six Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with the aforementioned news caption. The photo (9x7") displays numerous light creases and a small piece of clear tape on the reverse. In Very Good condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
