Original Type I photograph capturing Willie Mays posing in uniform at the Polo Grounds. The famed "Say Hey Kid" is pictured demonstrating his form in making his famous basket catch. The vintage pencil notation on the reverse reads "Mays ready for Indians in World Series 9/28/54." Mays, of course, changed the course of the 1954 World Series with his memorable game-saving catch off the bat of Vic Wertz in Game 1. The Giants went on to sweep the heavily favored Cleveland Indians in four straight games to win their first World Championship since 1933. Three Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with several editorial markings and notations. The photo (7.5x9.25") displays a few light creases and is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
