Presented is a great find for collectors prizing items featuring the Negro Leagues. There is a beautiful signed poster depicting colorful portraits of Negro League players, in uniform, along with Negro League players' signatures on the portrait and also signatures of Negro League players on a set of large cards included with the portrait. There are 13 signatures on the portrait. Hall of Fame first baseman Buck Leonard signed and inscribed the poster "Buck Leonard H.O.F. 1972." He is portrayed in the 1938 home uniform of the Homestead Grays, the legendary team in the Negro national league that had an unmatched power duo in Leonard and Hall of fame catcher Josh Gibson. First baseman Buck O'Neil, scheduled to be inducted posthumously into the Hall of Fame in the summer of 2022, signed and inscribed the portrait "Buck O'Neil K.C. Monarchs." He was a featured commentator in Ken Burns' Emmy winning documentary Baseball. In addition to Buck Leonard, Negro Leagues players depicted in the painting are all Hall of Famers: Ray Dandridge, third baseman; Pop Lloyd, a shortstop called "The Black Honus Wagner"; pitcher Willie Foster; manager Rube Foster; Leroy "Satchel" Paige, ageless pitcher; Martin Dihigo, an infielder, who also played the outfield and pitched; Oscar Charleston, an outfielder, who was the first superstar in the Negro Leagues; legendary slugging catcher Josh Gibson; great base stealer and outfielder James "Cool Papa" Bell; and Cuban born outfielder Cristobel Torriente. the poster measures approximately 15x29.5" and is framed at approximately 24.5x36.25". There is some water damage to the bottom left corner of the poster. In addition, the offering includes 35+ Negro league Legends cards, 19 of which are signed. The beautiful, vivid cards are from original oil paintings by Ron Lewis. Signed cards: Artie Wilson, whose signed card also depicts jazz legend Lionel Hampton, who also signed; Buck O'Neil; Double Duty Radcliffe; Artie Wilson, whose signed card also depicts jazz legend Lionel Hampton; who also signed; Max Manning; and Sam Jethroe. This trove also includes autographs on 3x5" index cards. Individually signed index cards: Newt Allen; William "Sug" Cornelius; Bill Byrd, and Ted page. Another index card features 10 signatures, including: Leon Day, Newt Allen, James "Cool Papa" Bell, Bill Byrd, and Jimmie Crutchfield. Altogether, the lot offers terrific items of Negro Leagues' memorabilia.
