Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by third baseman Don Hoak in 1959. The white flannel vest-style jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "12" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold felt. A "Rawlings Hall of Fame Flannel" label and "44" size tag are located on the left front tail. Below that are the numbers "12" and "59" chain-stitched in black (denoting the uniform number and year). Located on the interior left front tail are a laundry tag and an adjacent flag tag reading "Set 1 1959." The jersey is all original and displays heavy wear, including a few tiny tears on the front, reverse, and shoulders. 1959 marked Hoak's first season in Pittsburgh after having spent the previous two years with Cincinnati. Hoak batted .294 with 8 home runs and 65 RBI in 1959. The following season he was one of the key players on the club's 1960 World Championship team, and finished second in the MVP balloting behind teammate Dick Groat. Groat retired after the 1964 season with 89 home runs, 498 RBI, and a .265 lifetime average.
