Original photograph of Ty Cobb as a member of the Detroit Tigers, circa 1909. Cobb is captured in midair as he makes a leaping catch on the sidelines for the cameraman. Interestingly, in the background, another cameraman is taking a picture of one of his teammates. This photo was almost certainly taken with a Kodak Graflex camera, the lens of which had a speed of 1/1000 of a second. Kodak even used photos of Cobb such as this in its advertisements during the era to demonstrate the speed of its lens. One ad was titled "You Can't Catch 'Ty' - Except with a Kodak." The speed of the lens was no exaggeration, as one can plainly see by the exceptional clarity exhibited here. A small handwritten number in pencil appears on the reverse, along with adhesive residue. The adhesive was heavily applied and has slightly bled through to the front, otherwise the 3.75x4.75" photo is in Excellent condition. PSA encapsulated as a Type I Authentic.
