Taken from the perspective of the mezzanine along the first-base side, the photo shows the entire infield and a portion of the outfield. The original paper news caption (dated 5/25/40) remains attached to the reverse. According to the caption, the Giants were victorious under the lights that night, defeating the Boston Bees 8-1. A Brown Brothers credit label is also affixed to the reverse. 1940 marked the debut of night baseball for many Major League stadiums and lights quickly became popular with both fans and team owners.
