Terrific panoramic team photo of the 1937 Pittsburgh Pirates with sublime provenance. Len Martin and Dan Bonk authored a "Build It Yourself" model book on Forbes Field in 1994, a particular challenge because it was demolished in the early '70s. They interviewed and befriended many with intimate personal knowledge of Forbes, including surviving members of the Dreyfuss and Benswanger families (owners of the Pirates from 1900 to 1946); they received both photos as tokens of appreciation from a member of the Benswanger family approximately 20 years ago. Total of 39 individuals are in the picture with all but three signed near their image. Framed to 38x8", printed on the bottom right corner in white is, "Mar 18, 1937 - Photo by C.N. Jackson, Cotton, Calif. and Brewer's Studio. Last but far from least, the player on the right end has signed, J. Honus Wagner, and other keys include Hall of Famers Arky Vaughn, Lloyd Waner, and manager Pie Traynor. Just to Honus Wagner's left and actually partially cut off at the right edge is the photo and signature of owner Wm. E. Benswanger, and this piece actually came from his estate. Expected wear and some chipping to the vintage frame only adds to the classic feel of this timeless photo.
