Classic 1970 boxing poster is of a style familiar to venues across the country, but this one heralds the big match between Joe Frazer and Jimmy Ellis at Madison Square Garden on Monday, February 16 of that year. Measuring 28x21" and mounted on heavy board, the bright yellow background displays images of both heavyweights and would have been displayed in or around MSG in the New York City area. Competing to unify the World Heavyweight Championship, a relentless Smokin' Joe floored Ellis twice in the fourth round and Ellis did not answer the bell for the fifth. A few minor abrasions are present with some staple marks at the borders, but still looks terrific over 50 years later.
