Hyped as the "Battle of the Century" by promoter Tex Rickard, the 1921 bout pitted Heavyweight Champ Jack Dempsey against the former French WWI pilot Georges Carpentier. Fought in a quickly built arena in Jersey City, New Jersey, over 80,000 fans flooded the venue to watch Dempsey's fourth round knockout. From that momentous event comes this scarce pennant. At roughly 18" long, this rare as hen's teeth piece features both an American and French flag and reads, "World Heavyweight Championship - Dempsey Carpentier - Jersey City - July 2, 1921." Presents well overall with only a few holes and its original tassels.
