This rare halter was worn by the luminary Thoroughbred Medaglia d'Oro. The rare halter was "track-worn" during the relatively short timespan while Medaglia d'Oro was racing, as opposed to his extensive career as one of America's most valuable and influential stallions. The well-worn leather halter with engraved brass nameplate was obtained directly from the barn of the now deceased Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity denoting the same. As one of the most accomplished horses in his generation, Medaglia d'Oro won several prestigious stakes races including the San Felipe, Jim Dandy, and Travers in 2002 as well as the Oaklawn and Donn Handicap in 2003. Overall, he retired from racing with eight victories and whopping career earnings of over $5.7 million. However, those figures pale in comparison to his value at stud. As one or racing's most desirable stallions, Medaglia d'Oro has sired 142 stakes winners to date, including the outstanding fillies Plum Pretty and Songbird, as well as the great 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra. Currently, Medaglia d'Oro's stands at Darley Stud in Lexington, Kentucky, with a whopping $200,000 breeding fee.
