With a detente necessary between the U.S. and Japan following the atrocities of WWII, the game of baseball stepped in to provide some measure of relief and entertainment to the two reeling factions of the war with frequent American exhibitions in the "Land of the Rising Sun." This belt buckle comes from one such excursion. In 1955, it was the New York Yankees' turn to extend a peace offering to Japan, which was commemorated in this classic belt buckle. The front features the Yankees logo in full, while the back reads "New York Yankees Japan U.S. Goodwill Baseball Tournament" all in Japanese characters. The piece is in Excellent to Mint condition and offers a shining example of the healing power of sports.
