Offered here is a British horse racing game by Jaques and Sons, London, contained in handsome wooden rectangular box with a brass hinged lid. The lid reads "Ascot The New Racing Game," and is lined inside with green felt. Covered also in green felt is the interior, which houses the contents which compose the game. There is a crank on the side with a handle made of ivory, as well as eight painted cast iron horse and jockeys with different colors, all have about 70 to 80% of the original paint. Inside is a rod and the eight horses advance when you turn the ivory handle. The box measures 10x4.5x4" and each of the cast iron horses are 3" long and are in a galloping stance. Protruding from the neck of each is a hook, to which a piece of black cotton is tied. In the front of the box are six holes, each fronted by a bone knob. The string is threaded through these holes through the slits in the box, and through the holes in the brass rod and then tied to the rod. When the rod is turned, the horses race against each other with an erratic movement, so it is not possible to know which horse will win. There is a keyhole but no key, and we have the instructions but they are a copy of the original. The horses overall condition is EX to EX+.
