An important yet light-hearted diplomatic endeavor in the post-WWII world, the 1951 Joe DiMaggio All Star Tour of Japan did much to engender peace between the two nations as well as promote America's favorite pastime abroad. This belt buckle from the event joins the flags of the two countries, who were at war only six years prior, with a blue stripe containing a baseball and "1951" in the middle. The back reads "Japan U.S. Goodwill Baseball Kyushu Tournament" all in Japanese characters. There is a small chip and some scratching to the enamel.
