Presented is a great combination offer: Both a Stan Musial and a Johnny Mize circa 1947 Hillerich & Bradsby advertising display, with each separate display created by esteemed sports cartoonist Sam Davis - who worked on the Newspaper Enterprise Association and for various newspapers. Both Musial and Mize are Hall of Famers. Musial, an outfielder and first baseman, played his entire Major League career (1941-44 & 1946-63, with 1945 spent in military service). He batted a lifetime .331 with 475 home runs. He won seven NL batting titles, was a 3-time World Champion and was a 24-time NL All-Star. Musial was famous for his "peek-a-boo" batting stance, when the left-handed batter stood in a cork-screw stance, peeking over his raised right forearm.
Johnny Mize was a slugging first baseman who played with three Major League teams: St. Louis Cardinals (1936-42), military service from 1943-45, New York Giants (1946-49), and New York Yankees (1949-53). During the later stages of his career of his career, he was primarily used as a pinch hitter. Mize, a 10-time All-Star, batted a career .312 with a batting title for the Cardinals in 1939. He was a 5-time World Champion. Mize and Musial played together on the '41 and '42 St. Louis Cards. Mize hit 359 career home runs.
Each of the Hillerich & Bradsby advertising displays mixes a large, color image of the chosen player swinging a bat, and one can read "Hillerich & Bradsby" on Musial's bat. The major player image on each display is surrounded with smaller, mostly black & white images, of the player in action, both batting and in other ways. Each poster also contains light-hearted verbiage Also; each advertising display has the Hillerich & Bradsby logo. Both posters have a facsimile Sam Davis signature. Regarding real signatures and inscriptions: Mize neatly scripted his signature on the poster in big and bold, fine-tip blue marker, and Mize added a second signature, following his inscription as he used a blue marker to neatly pen, "To Frank, Best Wishes Johnny Mize." Musial also crafted a big and bold signature and inscription. He used a blue marker to write, "To Frank Best Wished Stan Musial." The Mize display has a few small stains and is in overall very good condition. The Musial display has a few stains, particularly in the lower left corner, and the display is in overall good condition.
