Enormous photograph, measuring 38.5x27", capturing 21 members of the 1946-1947 Indianapolis Capitals, including future Hall of Fame coach/executive Tommy Ivan. The players are pictured posing together on the ice, with each individual player identified in print along the base. The Indianapolis Capitals, a member of the American Hockey League, were a minor-league affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. As such, many of the players pictured here played in the NHL with the Red Wings at some point in their career. Coach Tommy Ivan later led the Red Wings to three Stanley Cup Championships and was also the longtime general manager of the Chicago Black Hawks. Photos of this size were normally produced only for players and team executives, making this a rare souvenir from the Capitals' 1946-1947 season. The photo, which appears to be dry mounted to a wood backing, displays light, scattered staining, a few small abrasions, and light crazing. In Very Good condition overall. Framed to total dimensions of 40x28". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
