Displayed is a circa 1916 original, vintage photograph of Babe Ruth hunting with some of his Red Sox teammates. Ruth was with the Red Sox from 1914-19, mostly as a pitcher who wound up with a lifetime 94-46 record and a 2.28 ERA. In 1916, Ruth went 23-13 with an American League-leading ERA of 1.75. The Bambino once held the Major League record for consecutive shutout innings in the World Series with 29.1 scoreless frames. Near the end of his time in Boston, Ruth was an outfielder, and when Red Sox owner Harry Frazee needed money to produce the Broadway musical No, No Nanette, he sold Ruth to the New York Yankees. Of course, most of the Sultan of Swat's 714 home runs came as a Yankee, and thus the legend of The Curse of the Bambino, the long drought between Red Sox World Championships, was born. For a time in Boston, Ruth's road roommate was first baseman Dick Hoblitzell, who is in the offered photo, apparently in the middle. Ruth, trademark fur coat and all, is on the right of the picture. The presented photo measures 3.25x4.1". On the back, an unknown hand has written "Oct 18 141-15" in pencil. The photo comes from the Dick Hoblitzell collection.
