Displayed is a 1910s photo duo of Lee Magee and Roy Hartzell that was taken by famed sports photographer Charles Conlon. 1) Magee played in the Major Leagues from 1911-19: St. Louis Cardinals (1911-14), Brooklyn Tip-Tops, of the Federal League (1915), New York Yankees (1916-17), St. Louis Browns (1917), Cincinnati Reds (1918), Brooklyn Robins (1919), Chicago Cubs (1919). He was primarily an outfielder and second baseman. He batted .324 in the 1915 season as the playing manager of the Brooklyn Tip-Tops, and in 1914 he was 11th in the voting for the NL MVP when he hit .284, with 36 steals and an NL-leading 35 sacrifices. It is unclear in what year or for what team Magee was playing when this photo was taken. The offered photo measures 7.75x9.75". It exhibits some slight folds and some minor paper loss along the right edge. The photo has a curve in it, from the passage of time. Also, on back is a stamped, Charles M. Conlon/Evening Telegram/New York. 2) Roy Hartzell played 11 Major League seasons: St. Louis Browns (1906-10), New York Yankees (1911-16). He was a versatile player who mainly played as a corner outfielder or a third baseman. His best season was in 1911, when he hit .296 for the Yankees. He batted .252 lifetime. The Hartzell photo measures 7.5x9.25", and it depicts him as a Yankee. The photo has a curve and some paper loss in three corners. There are some scratch marks or fold lines, apparently from when it was scored for potential cropping. in a few areas.
