Presented is a Carl Yastrzemski autographed circa 1982 Boston Red Sox game issued cap. As a rookie, Yaz had the difficult assignment of taking over left field for Boston after Hall of Fame icon Ted Williams retired, and Yastrzemski did so well that he too became a Boston idol and also made the Baseball Hall of Fame. Yaz played 23 seasons in the Major Leagues, all with the Red Sox. Carl was an 18-time All-Star and won seven Gold Gloves. In 1982, he was in his next-to-last season and almost completely a designated hitter. He was 42 years old, yet still played in 131 games, batting .275, with 16 home runs and 72 RBIs. He batted .285 lifetime, with 3,419 hits and 452 home runs - the first player to ever reach at least 3,000 hits with at least 400 home runs. His best season was in 1967, when he led Boston to the AL pennant, winning the Triple Crown and being named the AL MVP. The navy blue cap has a red, sewn-on "B", outlined in white, on the front. The back of the hatband has a Devon manufacturer's tag that shows the cap to be 100% wool. The back hatband also has a tag that reads, "United Hatters Cap & Millinery WKRS," and this tag shows a size 7. This game issued Yaz hat shows light use. Signed under the brim in black marker with Yaz's number 8. There is some material on bottom edge of brim that has worn away, and some of the material on the front edge of the brim is ragged or worn away. It's a fine item that connects to one of the icons of Boston sports.
