The game drew 41,723 patrons. The wondrous baseball immortal, Inaugural Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson, went the distance for the Senators in recording a 4-1 win. The Senators scored first, on a Joe Harris homer off the Pirates starter and loser, Lee Meadows. Washington added to its lead in the top of the 5th inning on a 2-run single by Hall of Famer Sam Rice. The Pirates' lone run came on a home run by Hall of Famer Pie Traynor in the 6th inning. The game's final run scored on a single by the Senators' Ossie Bluege in the top of the 9th inning. Mathewson scattered five hits and fanned 10 batters. Despite this Game 1 loss by the Pirates, Pittsburgh came back to win the Series in seven games. The offered ticket stub measures 2x4.4".
