Displayed is a 1960s vintage cut signature of Cary Grant, one of the most famous movie stars of all-time. Grant was born in Bristol, England in 1905. Born as Archibald Leach, his family was poor and troubled, and Grant took to the stage at an early age. He held various jobs backstage in local theaters and learned to stilt-walk when he became part of a traveling stage act. After moving to New York City, he used his stilt-walking skill to earn money walking on stilts while wearing an advertising "sandwich board" on the Coney Island boardwalk. In New York City, Grant appeared on Broadway and then moved to California to further his career in the movies. Grant basically invented the persona of the characters that he often played in films - wealthy, sophisticated men. He didn't rely on his good looks alone, and he became an extraordinary actor in romantic comedies. He was nominated for two Academy Awards as Best Actor: Penny Serenade (1941) and None but the Lonely Heart (1944). Some of his most famous films were opposite Katharine Hepburn: Bringing Up Baby (1938) and The Philadelphia Story (1940). Another terrific Grant performance was in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959). He received an Honorary Academy Award in 1970. Grant passed away in 1986. Using a black, fine tip marker, Grant signed an approx. 2.25x4" piece of paper or card stock. The foregoing cut is affixed to a larger piece of paper or card stock measuring approx. 3.5x4.6". Below the signature is "Cary Grant", crafted on a small strip of plastic by a labeling gun. There are small glue or tape remnants near the top of the offering, but they do not impact the signature. The signature has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA Certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
