"Trying to hit (Sandy) Koufax is like trying to drink coffee with a fork," said Hall of Famer Willie Stargell. Presented is a 5x7", black & white Jay Publishing Sandy Koufax vintage (1960s) signed photo. Koufax pitched his entire career with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers (1955-66). The bonus rules at the time forced the Brooklyn Dodgers to keep Koufax on the Major League roster for the full 1955-56 seasons or risk losing him to another team. His lack of extensive pitching experience in high school and college hindered the early career of Koufax, but when he hit his pitching peak, from 1963-66, he was almost unhittable. From '63-66, with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Koufax, known as "the Left Arm of God," averaged 24 wins, and only seven defeats, per season, and his ERA each in those four years was between 1.73-2.04. In those four seasons, he was a 3-time Cy Young winner, a 3-time winner of the pitching Triple Crown, and the '63 NL MVP. Overall, he was a 4-time World Series Champion and threw four no-hitters, including a perfect game in 1965. Koufax felt he had to retire after the 1966 season or risk lifetime damage to his health, as he was especially concerned about taking repeated injections of cortisone for his continually ailing left arm. The early Koufax retirement led to his being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame at only 36 years of age, the youngest player ever elected. Koufax has neatly signed the photo, in blue ink. The photo has one horizontal crease in the center; otherwise, the photo is in excellent condition. The photo was signed back in the '60s. It has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
