Displayed is a 1979 Willie McCovey San Francisco Giants Hillerich & Bradsby ash bat that was game used by the Hall of Fame first baseman and sometimes outfielder. McCovey played 22 seasons in the Major Leagues: San Francisco Giants (1959-73 & 1977-80), & San Diego (1974-76), Oakland Athletics (1976). He batted a career .270, with 521 home runs. McCovey was the NL Rookie of the Year in '59, and the NL MVP in '69, when he hit .320 and led the NL in homers (45), RBIs (126), OBP (.453), SLG (.656), and OPS (1.108). He was a 6-time All-Star. McCovey had his last productive season in 1979, hitting 15 home runs and his final season was in 1980. The offered bat is uncracked, and it has a length of 35.0 inches and a weight of 32.3 ounces. It has a flame-burned finish. On the barrel is etched "Genuine P72 [model]/WILLIE McCovey LOUISVILLE SLUGGER." McCovey's number 44 is written on the knob in black marker. The bat exhibits evidence of excellent use. The bat comes with a PSA/DNA Letter of Grading and Certification (1B31245). The offering comes with a PSA/DNA bat grade of GU 8.5.
