San Diego Padres home jersey worn by pitcher Fred Norman during the 1972 season. This is a rare style jersey that was used by the Padres only during the 1972 and 1973 seasons. 1972 is also the first season in which the Padres wore knit uniforms. The gold knit jersey is lettered Padres across the front and features the number 35 on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in brown tackle twill. A Rawlings 40 label appears in the collar along with an adjacent flag tag reading "Set 1 #8P 1972." Although there is no name in the jersey, Fred Norman was the only player to wear number 35 on the Padres in 1972. The jersey is original as issued and displays heavy wear. Norman, who was later one of the mound aces for the Cincinnati Reds' "Big Red Machine" of 1975 and 1976, started 28 games for the Padres in 1972. He finished the season with nine wins, including a team-high six shutouts, and a 3.44 ERA. He retired after the 1980 season with 104 wins and a 3.64 lifetime ERA.
