Collection of nine original film negatives taken during the game played between the Yankees and Boston Red Sox in which Roger Maris hit is then-record-breaking 61st home at Yankee Stadium on October 1, 1961. Included among these images is Maris rounding the bases after his historic blast, Maris crossing the plate after his 61st home run, Maris at the plate awaiting a pitch, Maris in mid-swing at the plate, and Maris kneeling in the on-deck circle. (Original Type I photos of Maris rounding the bases and Maris crossing the plate, produced from the negatives in this collection, are offered elsewhere in this auction.) While all of the images in this collection were taken at Yankee Stadium on October 1, 1961, the only two that directly relate to Maris' 61st home run are the image of him circling the bases and crossing the plate. Maris' 61st home run occurred in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the other images of him, especially those at the plate, show him either earlier or later in the game. The nine complete negatives (2.25x2.25") are in the form of three different uncut strips, with two strips also featuring a portion of an additional negative. One of the negatives (Maris crossing the plate) displays a crease and another (stadium scene) has a staple hole. Aside from those two condition anomalies, the negatives remain in Excellent condition overall.
