1976 Pete Rose Cincinnati Reds World Championship season signed game worn jersey is a spectacular find and comes with full Resolution Photomatch documentation and plaque. One of the finest Rose game worn jerseys in existence and only one of a very few that have been matched from any year, the pullover top is all original except for a period replacement of the 1976 Bicentennial patch on the right sleeve; Rawlings size 44, year 1976, and Set 1 tagging are inside the front tail. "C Reds" logo with white letters on red background sits on the left breast opposite Charlie Hustle's number 14, which is also on back below his name, arched in individually-sewn red lettering. Baseball's all-time hits leader has signed below the front number with "Best Wishes" inscription in 7/10 black Sharpie. The jersey shows nice use with some light staining and abrasions on the front, as would be expected on a Rose jersey from his penchant for head-first slides. This marvelous artifact has been graded GU A9.5 by MEARS, with the only deduction listed coming from the replaced patch; it has been matched to a game in October but the image does not have a date - it is against the Atlanta Braves and the Reds played them on October 1, 2 and 3. There is a distinct possibility that it was used in the postseason and World Series as the likelihood is that the original patch was removed by the team during the off-season so the jersey could be used at the start of spring training the following year. At age 35, Rose showed no signs of slowing down in the '76 season, leading the National League in hits (215), runs (130), and doubles (42), with a sparkling .323 batting average. Not surprisingly, that carried into the playoffs as Rose batted .429 with a 1.185 OPS as the Big Red Machine swept the Philadelphia Phillies in three games for the National League pennant and completed one of the most dominant playoff runs in MLB history with a 4-0 sweep of the New York Yankees in the World Series. Exceptional in terms of player, season, use, signature, and historical context, this special specimen is clearly among the "Best of the Best."
