Collection of 326 photographs relating to the New York Yankees spanning five decades (1930s-1970s). These photos originate from the personal collection of a former Boston sportswriter, who acquired most of them from either his newspaper's photo department, or the New York Yankees public relations department. Many are news photos (including wire photos, where the caption is embedded in the photo), but publicity photos are also present. Among the players/executives featured here, either alone or with teammates, are Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Billy Martin, Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson, Casey Stengel, Phil Rizzuto, Yogi Berra, Joe McCarthy, Elston Howard, Whitey Ford, Ralph Houk, Bobby Murcer, Roger Maris, and Joe Pepitone. The approximate breakdown of photos, by decade, is as follows: 1930s/1940s (3%), 1950s (33%), 1960s (33%), and 1970s (31%). The photos vary in size, but the majority measure either 7x9" or 8x10", with the others slightly smaller or larger, except for eight, which measure approximately 9x13". A few of the large-format 9x13" photos bear LIFE magazine stamps on the reverse. Because most are news photos, many display flaws consistent with their former use, including, but not limited to, trimming, creasing, crazing, edge tears, editorial shading and/or markings, pinholes, and writing on the reverse. Please note: none of the photos have been evaluated by PSA, therefore no guarantees are made regarding specific Type designations, however, we believe the majority are NOT Type I examples.
