Boston Red Sox road jersey worn by third baseman Bill Mueller during the historic 2004 World Series. The gray knit jersey is lettered "Boston" across the front and features the number 11 on the reverse. "Mueller" is lettered upon a gray nameplate on the reverse, directly above the number. All letters and numerals are applied in red on navy tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Russell Athletic" label, a "2004" year tag, and a "48" size tag. The original 2004 World Series patch was at one time removed and subsequently replaced with an authentic example; however, the stitch pattern of the original patch is clearly visible above the replacement. Aside from the restored patch, the jersey is original as issued and displays light wear. Mueller was a key contributor during the Red Sox' four-game sweep of the Cardinals in the 2004 fall classic. That victory "reversed the curse" and gave the Red Sox their first World Championship since 1918. Mueller started all four games in the Series, batting a team-high .429 with two RBI. A former American League batting champion in 2003, Mueller batted .283 with 12 home runs and 57 RBI in 2004. He finished his eleven-year career in 2006 with 85 home runs, 493 RBI, and a .291 lifetime average.
