Photo-Match: A conclusive photo-match has been found to an undated image from the 1969-70 season, and we can pinpoint the year given the 50th Anniversary patch. Please see photos in listing. Comes with Davious Photo-Matched LOA.

1960s Washington Redskins football helmet attributed to perennial Pro Bowl center Len Hauss. This is an exceedingly rare style Washington Redskins helmet that was used by the club only during the eleven-year span from 1960-1970. The maroon Riddell "RK-2" helmet features a spear and feather applied to each side. The number 56 is applied in white numerals on the reverse. The only two players to wear number 56 for the Redskins between the years 1960 and 1970 were center Ed Beatty, who played just a half season with the club in 1961, and center Len Hauss, who wore it during his entire fourteen-year career with Washington (1964-1977). Given their respective tenures with the club it is therefore more probable that offered helmet was worn by Hauss.

The helmet displays extensive wear, indicative of several seasons of use. Numerous abrasions, heavy scratches, dings, and paint transfers are displayed on the exterior, including damage to the spear and feather decals, which one can see have been replaced at least once. A piece of vintage white tape is affixed to the front of the helmet. The original facemask remains, but the top anchor has broken away from the mounting screws and the side clips have been replaced. The interior suspension unit remains intact and bears the size, "7 1/8," stamped in black on a rear strap. There is a name, which is partially illegible but appears to read "Ander," printed in black marker on one side of the interior. On the other side of the interior, a name has been crossed out in black marker, below which is written the number "56." An "R K 2" model label is affixed to the interior.

Len Hauss was a fixture at center and anchored the Redskins' offensive line from 1964 to 1977. During that span, he was selected to five Pro Bowls and was twice named Second Team All Pro at his position. He is considered one of the 80 greatest players in franchise history and is honored today on the Washington Commanders Ring of Fame.
