Philadelphia Phillies road jersey worn by coach Billy DeMars in 1969. This was the last year the Phillies wore this style road jersey. The next season the club redesigned its uniforms, switching to a "P" logo on the left breast. The gray flannel jersey is lettered "Phillies" across the front and features the number 46 on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in maroon on white chenille fabric. "DeMars" is chain-stitched in black upon a gray strip tag in the collar. A Wilson 42 label is located on the left front tail, directly below which is both the year and set number ("1969 Set 2") chain-stitched in black. The MLB 100th Anniversary patch has been removed from the left sleeve, otherwise the jersey is original as issued. Moderate wear is displayed throughout. This jersey was acquired directly from the Philadelphia Phillies in 1974 and includes a portion of the original mailing envelope it was sent in. DeMars enjoyed a brief three-year Major League career (1948-1951) and then spent the next 36 years as both a minor-league manager and Major League coach. His coaching tenure with the Phillies ran from 1969 to 1981, and he later coached with the Expos (1982-1984) and Cincinnati Reds (1985-1987), where Pete Rose said DeMars was the best hitting coach he had ever worked with.
