Displayed is a signed photograph of Hall of Famer Nellie Fox. A second baseman, Jacob Nelson "Nellie" Fox played 19 seasons of Major League Baseball: Philadelphia Athletics (1947-1949), Chicago White Sox (1950-1963), Houston Astros (1964-65). Fox is the third most difficult batter to strike out in Major League history. Being so skilled at making contact made Fox a great number 2 hitter in the batting order as leadoff men, such as fellow Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio on the White Sox, were able to chance more steals knowing that Fox could protect them with a swing or take part in a hit-and-run play. Fox has an amazing lifetime 42.7 at bats per strikeout ratio. For his career, Fox hit .288, with 2,663 hits. The 1959 season was the best year of Fox's career. He batted .306 and had 70 RBIs. He helped the White Sox, the "Go-Go Sox," to the American League pennant, and he was the AL MVP. The White Sox lost the '59 World Series in six games to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but Fox was outstanding, batting .375. Fox was a 15-time All-Star and a 3-time Gold Glove winner, and the Gold Glove Award was not given until 1957. The 4.24x5.75" black & white photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO. Second baseman Joe Morgan, upon his induction into the Hall of Fame, praised Fox, with whom Morgan played on the 1964-65 Houston Colt .45s/Astros: "...I wouldn't be standing here today if it wasn't for what I learned from him.... Above all, Nellie impressed upon me the importance of coming to the ballpark each day bringing something to help the team." Fox neatly signed the photo in blue ink. The photo is not graded by PSA, but it is a Type I original.
