Displayed is a great 1955 photograph of the six Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees that year, signed by four of those inductees. The four legends who signed: Ray Schalk, Ted Lyons, Gabby Hartnett, and Joe DiMaggio. Also in the photo are Frank "Home Run" Baker and Dazzy Vance. The 5x7" photo is vintage and original, and it depicts the HOF inductees in a relaxed and jovial mood. It was taken June 25, 1955, at Cooperstown during the annual Hall of Fame game and is dated at the bottom. Ray Schalk was a small catcher at 5'9" and 170 lbs. He batted only .253 for his Major League career, 18 years, with all but his last season with the Chicago White Sox. In 1919, eight players on the White Sox met with gamblers and the World Series, against the Cincinnati Reds, was fixed. Schalk's honest play, despite several key pitchers such as Eddie Cicotte and Lefty Williams trying to throw the Series, no doubt helped Schalk into the Hall of Fame. Ted Lyons had a 20-year Major League career as a pitcher, exclusively playing for the Chicago White Sox (1923-42). He had a lifetime 260-230 record and pitched a no-hitter in 1926. Gabby Hartnett was a catcher who played most of his career with the Chicago Cubs (1922-40) and a final season with the New York Giants. He batted .297 lifetime, with 236 home runs. Joe DiMaggio had played his last season in 1951, and his 56-game hitting streak is still baseball's all-time best. Joltin' Joe is the "kid" in the photo, and he led the voting with 88.8% of the ballots. Frank "Home Run" Baker led the American League for four consecutive seasons in home runs - from 1911-14 with the Philadelphia Athletics - and he continued his success with the New York Yankees. He never hit more than 12 home runs in a season and hit "merely" 96 in his career, but he was a great slugger in the dead ball era. Dazzy Vance was a right-hander who pitched for five teams, mostly for the Brooklyn Robins/Dodgers (1922-32 & '36). He had a 197-140 record, with a 3.24 ERA. The signatures, all in ink, average 7-8/10. The photo appears EXCELLENT, and it is stamped on back by photographer Don Wingfield. The photo is vintage and original. It was taken on June 25, 1955, at Cooperstown during the annual Hall of Fame Game and it is dated on the bottom. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified AUTHENTIC AUTO.
