Displayed is a vintage photo of Hall of Famer Gil Hodges at bat for the Los Angeles Dodgers in a home game, most likely at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum at some point from 1958-60. Hodges played 18 Major League seasons: Brooklyn Dodgers (1943 & 1947-57), Los Angeles Dodgers (1958-61), New York Mets (1962-63). A 2023 inductee to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Hodges by consensus is regarded as the premier Major League first baseman of the 1950s. Only Dodgers teammate Duke Snider had more homers and more RBIs than Hodges in the Major Leagues during the 1950s. Hodges was an integral part of the only Brooklyn Dodgers World Championship team, in 1955. He also was a part of the 1959 Los Angeles Dodgers World Champions. Hodges was a terrific fielder. He came up to the Dodgers as a catcher, and as a first baseman, he won the first three NL Gold Glove Awards, from 1957-59. Since Hodges was a natural at first base, he would most likely have won more Gold Gloves if the Award originated sooner in his career. When he retired as a player, he was second in National League history in assists for a first baseman (1,281) and double plays by a first baseman (1,614). The original photo measures 4x5". The Hodges' signature, in blue ink, looks to be 7.5/10. The photograph has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA has certified the signature as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
