Original film negative of Ted Williams taken by noted Chicago baseball photographer George Burke. Williams is captured sitting in the dugout at Comiskey Park, with a wide smile on his face, as he poses for the camera. This is an extremely early image of "The Splendid Splinter," most likely dating from one of his first few years in the league. Unlike photos, negatives are one of a kind and are the photographic items most closely related to both the subject and the photographer's art form. George Burke was based in Chicago, which was ideal for him, as the town hosted two Major League baseball teams. As such, he had access to every player in each league, with nearly all of his baseball photos taken at either Comiskey Park or Wrigley Field. Burke was not only one of the most gifted photographers of his era, but one of the most prolific, and he endeavored to photograph every professional player in the game over the course of his career. Burke also supplied most of the ballplayers with photos of themselves, which they used to distribute to fans and friends. The negative (5x7") bears a production code written along the left border and a tiny indentation in the upper right border.
