Tony Lazzeri is a Hall of Fame second baseman who played most of his Major League career with the New York Yankees. Offered is a cut Tony Lazzeri signature. Tony grew up in San Francisco. He was expelled from school at 15 years of age and went to work in the Main Iron Works, where his father was employed. Tony developed great arm and shoulder strength from his job, which consisted of lifting and tossing rivets to other workers. He played semi-pro baseball and then played in the minor leagues. In 1925, he was with Salt Lake City of the Pacific Coast League. The league played a 197-game schedule in those days, and Lazzeri was astounding. In '25, he batted .355, drove in 222 runs, and hit 60 home runs - at that time the most ever hit in professional baseball. Salt Lake City had a working agreement with the Chicago Cubs, but the Cubs chose not to take Lazzeri because he was an epileptic. But Yankee scouts learned that none of Lazzeri's epileptic episodes had ever occurred on a ballfield, and they bought Lazzeri. A long-term fixture at second base for the Bronx Bombers, Tony played 12 of his 14 seasons with the Yankees, and in his final two seasons played for the New York Giants and the Chicago Cubs. He hit .292 lifetime, with 178 home runs, a very high total for a middle infielder in his day. Lazzeri was a 5-time World Champion. Lazzeri's signature is on a 1.5x4.1" piece of paper or card stock.
