Offered is an original display box for a dozen Official Reach Official American League baseballs. There have been only three different manufacturers of Major League baseballs since 1876. That year, Spalding obtained the exclusive right to manufacture baseballs for the National League. When the American League debuted as a major league, the American League baseballs were manufactured by Reach, which was owned by Spalding. In 1977, Rawlings obtained the right to manufacture baseballs for both the American and National Leagues. The black heavy cardboard display box measures 9x12", with a depth of 3". On the side of this larger display box is "Reach Official American League/1 Dozen No. 0 Baseballs/Cushion Cork Center," and also, written in an unknown hand with blue ink from a fountain pen is "new Balls." The box held a dozen baseballs. There is one empty individual baseball cardboard box within the display box. This smaller box measures 2.75x2.75x 2.75". The smaller box has "Official American League/The Official Adopted Standard/Reach" printed on one side of the box. Another side of the smaller box reads "Official Ball World Series And The American League." On another side of the smaller box is "The Sign of Quality/ Reach/ Marca Registrada," and the just preceding Spanish language for "Registration Mark" may indicate that the balls were produced outside the United States. The smaller box has "Boston Red Sox" and "T. Williams/Painting by Doc Wainer(?)/1959/No signature."
