From 1919-1921, strip-card set W514 was produced that included seven of the eight Chicago Black Sox players who were banned from baseball for their alleged role in throwing the 1919 World Series. Offered is a subset of six of the seven banned players: #3 Felsch (EX), 15 Jackson (GD-VG, poorly cut), 31 Gandil (VG-EX), 35 L. Williams (VG-EX), 82 Cicotte (EX) and 91 Weaver (VG-EX). Find the strip-card of ‘Swede Risberg’ (one of the eight) and you have a complete set of all strip cards produced for players involved in the scandal (the eighth player, Fred McMullen, did not have a card issued). Also included are cards of 4 other ‘White’ Sox members who were not indicted: #5 Collins (EX), 23 Kerr (VG, off-cut), 60 Schalk (GD, poorly cut) and 112 Manager Kid Gleason (EX). The significance of this popular "set within a set" issued at the height of the media's attention to the scandal is highlighted by Joe Jackson's only strip-card appearance! Total of 10 cards.
