A spectacular, large, original watercolor gouache painting on thick artist's paper of legendary basketball star Julius "Dr. J" Erving, Hall of Fame forward of the Philadelphia 76ers. This is an original watercolor painting, and no prints, copies or any other likenesses have ever been struck from it. Measures 44 3/8" wide by 30 1/8". Will command a room when hung on the wall. Artist James-Paul Brown, of Santa Monica, California, is a prolific artist whose hero is Van Gogh, and Brown's biggest influence is French Impressionism. Brown paints a wide variety of subjects: Landscapes, fruit bowls, nudes, jazz musicians, and athletes, particularly 1984 Olympians. The consignor states that James-Paul Brown, for whom the consignor had worked, gave it to him as a Christmas present one year. The signing took place in the Philadelphia 76er's hotel in Marina del Rey, California, near the Los Angeles home court, "The Fabulous Forum." The consignor adds, " He [Erving} picked the place to sign. It was his idea to add the uniform number." Excellent condition.
