Cole won the NL Pitcher of the Month Award for April 2015, after going 4–0 with a 1.76 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings pitched for the month.  Admiring his success, the Pirates' chose him to start the 2015 National League Wild Card Game against the Chicago Cubs.
