Great Bobby Orr hockey jersey. Game worn by not only a Hall of Fame icon, but also the best defenseman in history. Circa 1972 Boston Bruins jersey. In the years surrounding 1972, Orr dominated hockey. Before Orr, NHL defensemen would sometimes attack in the offensive zone, but such advances were minimal. Defensemen mostly stayed back at the offensive blue line. Orr revolutionized the game, as he would rush the puck up ice and attack in the offensive zone. No defenseman in hockey history had been so offensively brilliant in such daring attacking play. He was the key to the Boston Bruins' attack as his aggressive forays into enemy territory were unprecedented. Orr once said, "I was the happiest guy in the world when I was on the ice." His joy in playing was part of his wondrous success. For example, in the 1971-72 season, he scored 37 goals and had 80 assists for 117 points. Orr led Boston to Stanley Cup wins in 1969-70 and 1971-72. He won the Hart Trophy as the NHL's MVP in 1969-70 through 1971-72, and he won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman for eight years in a row, from 1967-68 through 1974-75. In his career, limited to only 12 years because of injuries, the amazing Orr scored 270 goals, had 645 assists, for 915 points. Signed in blue on front right breast. Huge section of at least 12 repairs on right sleeve, with repaired elbow threading suggests the sleeve may have been torn off during a fight. Two other repairs on right sleeve. Also small repair in neck under laces. Red paint transfers and slash marks on both sleeves. Wilson tag in neck. Unknown stain to the left of back number. Heavy use shown. Original laces in neck. Two fight straps. Measures 48-50 width. Wonderful game wear from a hockey immortal.
