*** FAILED PSA FOR 2019SC *** 1950 Rogers Hornsby handwritten November 18, 1950, signed letter. Hall of Famer Hornsby, a second baseman, played 24 years in the Major Leagues, primarily with the St. Louis Cardinals. He also managed teams in both leagues. He hit .358 lifetime, three times batting over .400, and he was the National League MVP in 1925 and 1929. In the fall of 1950 when this letter was written, Hornsby was managing the Ponce team in the Puerto Rican Winter League. Hornsby is evidently corresponding with a car dealer in Battle Creek, Michigan concerning Hornsby's approaching purchase of a new Cadillac, a "Coupe 2-door Model 61." Slugger Ralph Kiner was famous for saying, "Singles hitters drive Fords and home run hitters drive Cadillacs." Kiner could have added, "But if you can hit over .400 like Hornsby, you, too, can drive a Cadillac." Hornsby adds, "There will be no extras except radio and heater." Hornsby also mentions possibly purchasing two new Oldsmobiles, and he asks about "the newest best model Oldsmobile...." Comes with envelope handwritten by Hornsby with Rogers Hornsby "signature" on top left. Folded on 8.5x11"paper. Envelope has a tear on top from where the envelope was opened. Letter is in good condition.
