Ty Cobb was an original, a baseball immortal, famed for his combative play almost as much as for his wondrous skills. Signed check from Cobb, an original inductee into the Hall of Fame in 1939. But Cobb wasn't just great on the field. He was an absolutely astute investor, becoming a millionaire when that word meant "extremely wealthy," through crafty investment in Coca-Cola, whose headquarters was in his home state of Georgia, and General Motors, located in Detroit, where he played with the Tigers. Cobb was reputedly tight with a buck when it came to business, but it is little known that he was very generous to down-and-out former ballplayers and their families, often secretly supporting many persons by sending them checks. Here is a 1956 Ty Cobb signed bank check, in the amount of $21.24, payable to the California Water Service Company. Cobb's given name of "Tyrus R. Cobb" is printed on the check, and the handwriting on the 3x8" check is in the neat hand of Cobb, written with his usual famed green ink. Check is cashed and stamped by the California Water Service and the First National Bank of Nevada on back. Excellent condition. PSA encapsulated.
