**** DUPLICATE OF 93987 FROM 2019SC ***  Broadside advertising a Negro League game between the Philadelphia Daises (Daisies) and the Baltimore Grays at Old Hilldale Park in Darby, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, May 10, (1942). Jesse Owens, Olympic Gold Medal winner, is also touted as making an appearance at the game. The poster states that the "World's Fastest Human Will Toss The First Ball." A photo of Owens is on the poster, as do photos of two unidentified Negro League players. Although the year is not listed, the fact that a note along the base advises patrons to "Buy Victory Bonds," which were only issued during World War II, conclusively dates the piece to the period 1941 through 1945. During that five-year span, the only year in which May 10 fell on a Sunday was 1942. The Hilldale Daisies, or Hilldales as they were more commonly called, were one of the greatest Negro League teams of the 1920s, however, the team disbanded in 1932. Therefore, despite the broadside's claim of "Negro Major League Baseball," the "Daises" promoted here were most likely a Darby, Pennsylvania, semipro club who simply adopted the earlier club's name. That might explain why they are referred to as the "Phil. Daises" and not the Hillsdale Daisies, and why our research failed to uncover any information regarding the "Baltimore Grays." Regardless, it remains an extremely rare and colorful Negro-League advertising piece, pre-dating Jackie Robinson's historic breaking of the Major League "color barrier" in 1947, and capturing the spirit of Negro League baseball in the years immediately preceding integration. The broadside (16x25.5"), printed on cardboard stock, is technically in Good condition, with a few small edge tears, two small corner chips, and both tape repair and light staining in the upper right corner. Despite the flaws, nearly all of which are along the periphery, the central image remains free of any significant defects, and the poster has an extremely impressive display value. Beautifully mounted and framed to total dimensions of 24x34".
