One-of-a-kind pop art by innovative Sports Illustrated artist Donald Moss. This is the original artwork. Using post-Warhol techniques, Moss features Robinson, as a Los Angeles Dodger, in a more-or-less realistic pose as Robinson is kneeling on an on-deck circle contrasted against a surreal Robinson profile, face half-blue and half-natural. Robinson, the first Afro-American manager in Major League Baseball, played one season for the Dodgers in 1972. Beautifully framed and matted at 20.5x21.75", the orange dotted background sets off the blue colors to great effect. On the matting of the piece, Moss writes, in pencil, "To Frank, Fond Memories, All my best, Don Moss." On the back of the piece is written, "Frank Robinson Sports Illustrated" and it is again signed, this time in black felt tipped marker, "Don Moss."
