Entitled "Inner City Baseball", this marvelous schoolyard scene shows African American schoolchildren from Baltimore playing the National Game. Likened to Edward Hopper, Ralph McGuire was a Maryland naive artist whose works captured the imagination of all ages. Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, McGuire was strongly influenced by the cityscape around him. His work has been exhibited at the Baltimore Museum of Art, The University of Maryland and the Peale Museum and Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
This painting is signed by the artist and dated 1970 on recto. Annotated "Ralph McGuire, 1970" with signed and titled info card on verso. Great condition, appears to be in original wood frame.
