Nice Joe Choynski find. A Jewish boxer from San Franscisco, Joe Choynski was famed for both his intellect and his terrific punch. Handsome, he had blond hair, and his light hair and good looks gave rise to his nickname "Chrysanthemum Joe." Choynski was a light heavyweight who would also fight heavyweights, and his weight was light for a heavyweight, usually running between the lows 160s and the low 180s. Although never getting a title shot, Choynski was a respected threat whose hammer-like punch made some champions reluctant to face him. Two contracts are included: 1) First contract is on a separate page and is dated September 16, 1896. An agreement for a six-round exhibition fight 10 days later between Choynski and Gus Ruhlin at the Philadelphia AC. Contract is signed by Choynski. This fight was postponed until November 4th of that year. Appears to be in three pieces with vintage tape on reverse keeping contract together. Significant paper loss. 2) Second contract is for Joe Choynski to fight Ruhlin at the Philadelphia Athletic Club on November 4, 1898. Contract is dated October 17, 1898. Significant paper loss. Vintage tape on verso with stain from tape bleeding through to the front. Signed by both fighters. Ruhlin won the fight by points. Also includes B&W photo of Choynski (4x5.5"). The two contracts and small photo are all displayed together, framed 15.5x27.5". PSA authenticated and comes with an LOA.
