Rare vintage photo of Walter Johnson in a minor league uniform. It's rare because Johnson started his professional career in the Major Leagues and stayed there for 21 consecutive seasons with the Washington Senators. Here, Johnson is the manager of the Newark Bears, and he seems to be hitting balls to fielders during batting practice. Johnson's Bears went 81-84 for the '28 season, finishing 7th, but Johnson had earned his spurs as a manager and the next season he took over the Senators in the majors. Photo has some minor tears.
