In the 1940s, Lou Costello was one of the world's most popular and highest-paid entertainers, and was the comic side of Abbott and Costello. The performers were both from New Jersey, and in this tribute dinner, Costello's hometown of Patterson honored its famous son. The diecut has a cover photo in juxtaposition to Costello's comical dress and persona in that it features Costello in a dignified, handsome, serious pose, and the cover also includes a heartfelt inscription to a friend. Writing to "Abe" (possibly Abe J. Greene), Costello writes, "What I wish for myself I will always wish for you." Costello was always generous in gifts to his hometown, and Paterson now has a Lou Costello Park, featuring a statue of Lou, in comic mode. In a reference to his famous baseball sketch, "Who's On First," the statue is called "Lou On First" and shows Costello with his foot on a first base bag. This program is a fine addition to any collection, with cross-appeal for entertainment, baseball, and New Jersey. Diecut measures approx. 7x10".
