One of the most famous games in baseball history. Amazing 8x10" wire photo of the deciding game of the championship at Yankee Stadium. The image shows Grover Cleveland Alexander being crowded by his teammates after what was probably the deciding moment of the evening. Holding on to a 3-2 lead, Alexander was brought in to pitch with Combs, Ruth and Gehrig on base and Lazzeri at bat. Alexander struck out Lazzeri to end the inning as well as the Yankee threat. He would play out the last two innings retiring five, walking Ruth in the 9th and ending the game as Ruth got caught stealing second. Photo has ACME Newspictures stamp on back with original wire service tag. NEA stamp dated Oct 12, 1926, also appears on verso. Photo is overall nice with some creasing and pinholes.
