Interesting collection from the 1939 - 40 World's Fair, a monumental undertaking that included exhibits from 33 countries. It was held at Flushing Meadows -Corona Park, in Queens, NYC, near the site of the later day Shea Stadium and Citifield. With the benefit of hindsight, we can now know with irony that the innocent, happy moments portrayed in the photos were presented a mere six months before the beginning of World War II, in Europe. All photos are Type 1. Some with paper captions, flag raising. 1) Celebration of Babe Ruth on stage. 2) Flag raising with Babe Ruth, great image of Ruth playfully "hiding" behind flag. 3-8) AAU, Tufts, Univ. of Washington, Navy, U.S. Polo Association, USC. 9) Philadelphia A's with Connie Mack and Al Simmons. 10) Yankees, Dodgers, Giants Reps. with Ott, Hubbell and Terry. 11-12) Two great cheerleader photos, sexy sweater girls.
From the estate of Joe Bihler, the right hand man of Babe Ruth's agent Christy Walsh and in turn Ruth himself.
