Claire Merritt met Babe Ruth in 1923 and they were married in 1929. Their marriage was the second for each of them. After Babe passed, Claire worked to carry on the Babe’s memory. She signed “Mrs. Babe Ruth” in blue ink across the sweet spot of this Spalding “Official Babe Ruth League Baseball,” adding the notation “1975.” The ball has toned evenly and is still very presentable. While the autograph and inscription have faded slightly over the years, they are both large and very legible, making for a fine display.
